Dubai nursery and early learning provider contributes to Knowledge at Wharton research on how early childhood development can build the capabilities children need in the age of AI

DUBAI, AE / ACCESS Newswire / September 8, 2026 / Masterminds Early Learning Center, the Dubai nursery and early education arm of Masterminds Education, is bringing its UAE-developed model into a broader international conversation around Brain Capital, neuroscience and the capabilities children will need in the age of AI.

Shamail Siddiqi, Co-founder and CEO of Masterminds Education, recently co-authored the Knowledge at Wharton article “Building Brain Capital: Why Early Childhood Education Shapes the Future Workforce and Economy” alongside Dr. Michael Platt, Faculty Director of the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative and Chief Neuroscientist at Masterminds Education, and researchers and experts from the University of Pennsylvania and the Brain Capital Alliance.

The article argues that adaptability, judgment, emotional regulation, creativity and lifelong learning begin developing far earlier than most conversations about the future of work suggest. It also makes an important distinction: early education is not automatically high quality simply because it starts early. The design of the learning environment matters.

“AI is forcing us to reconsider what education is ultimately for,” Siddiqi said. “If technology can retrieve information, generate content and increasingly personalize instruction, we have to become much more intentional about developing the human capabilities that technology cannot easily replace.”

A UAE-developed model built around how young children develop

These principles have shaped the Masterminds educational model in Dubai for more than a decade. The model is designed around the integrated development of intellectual, physical, social and emotional capabilities rather than treating them as separate priorities.

At its core is the ATHENA+ Framework, Masterminds’ proprietary whole-child approach for children in the Early Years. It combines intellectually ambitious learning with language, movement, music, creativity, social development and close adult interaction during a period of heightened neuroplasticity.

At Masterminds Early Learning Center in Dubai, children learn in small learning groups of 6 so teachers can observe them closely, sustain dialogue, adjust challenge and create more opportunities for children to question, explain, struggle and master something.

“Small groups are not simply about giving children more attention,” Siddiqi said. “They fundamentally change the developmental environment. A teacher can understand each child more deeply, respond more quickly and create more opportunities for children to speak, question, explain, struggle and master something.”

Why Brain Capital matters in the age of AI

Brain Capital broadly refers to the brain health and brain skills that underpin people’s capacity to learn, adapt, create, work with others and contribute productively throughout their lives. For young children, those foundations are shaped through a combination of language, movement, relationships, emotional regulation, music, intellectual challenge, exploration and social interaction.

AI can already retrieve information, generate sophisticated content, analyze data and perform cognitive tasks that once required substantial human expertise. That does not make knowledge less important. Children need deep knowledge to reason well and to judge whether an AI-generated answer is insightful, superficial or wrong.

“We cannot prepare children for an unpredictable future simply by giving them more information,” Siddiqi said. “We have to build the underlying capabilities that allow them to understand, judge, adapt, communicate and create. AI makes that much more urgent, but those capabilities begin developing long before a child enters university or the workforce.”

Early learning as part of the UAE’s human-capital agenda

The issue is especially relevant in the UAE, where artificial intelligence, education and human capital are central to long-term economic ambitions. Building an AI economy is not only about computing capacity, investment or teaching children to use new tools. It also requires people capable of judgment, adaptability, creativity, communication and continued learning.

For parents evaluating nursery and early learning options in Dubai, the implication is not that childhood should become more academically intense. It is that the quality and design of early experiences matter: how much children speak and interact, how deeply teachers know them, whether movement and music are treated as part of development, and whether learning builds curiosity, confidence and independence alongside knowledge.

“We may not know what jobs today’s children will eventually have,” Siddiqi said. “But we can know the type of mind we want to help develop – knowledgeable, curious, adaptable, confident, socially capable and able to keep learning. If we build those foundations properly, we give children something much more valuable than preparation for any single future.”

UN backs Equal Earth projection to fix Mercator map errors

    News

The international measure focuses directly on the widely utilized Mercator map projection, which was originally developed in the 16th century by Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator for maritime navigation purposes. While effective for nautical direction, the mathematical scaling of the Mercator model progressively exaggerates landmass sizes farther from the equator while compressing regions near it. According to documentation published by the United Nations General Assembly, these technical distortions continue to permeate modern educational textbooks, news media broadcasts, digital mapping platforms, and official government publications worldwide.
